Birds

My fondness of birds stems from when as a teenager when I lived in Tokyo, Japan. I would listen to the Japanese bush warbler project its unique song each year to announce the arrival of spring. Since then, whether I see a bird from a photograph or on walks in Providence RI, I try to identify them by paying attention to their colors of their feathers, their behaviors, their flight pattern, their songs, and personality. I give these birds their liveliness and voice through experimentation in the painting process so that the image can be in dialogue with the surface and oil paint.
